What Are All On X Dental Implants?
All-on-X dental implants are a full-arch tooth replacement option that uses a fixed set of prosthetic teeth supported by four to six strategically placed dental implants per jaw. The “X” refers to the number of implants used, which varies depending on your jawbone structure and clinical needs. Many patients will recognise the concept by its well-known name, All-on-4 dental implants.
Â
Unlike traditional removable dentures that sit on top of the gums, All-on-X implants are anchored directly into the jawbone, providing a stable foundation for your replacement teeth. The result is a full arch of fixed teeth designed to look, feel, and function similarly to natural teeth.
This treatment is designed for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth in one or both jaws, as well as those with severely damaged or failing teeth who may benefit from a complete restoration.
The All-on-X process at Ambience Dental
Every patient’s treatment plan is different. Here is a general overview of what the All on X journey at Ambience Dental generally involves:
1.
Assessment & treatment planning
The first stage in the All on X procedure is a full assessment with one of our experienced implant dentists in Wollongong. This enables us to fully understand what you’d like to achieve, to assess your dental and medical history and to take x-rays and moulds to give us an accurate picture of your jawbone and mouth. At the end of the assessment, we will put together a detailed treatment plan and will have everything we need to use as a template for your new teeth.
2.
Implant placement
When you come for the procedure itself, you may well be surprised how quick it is. The first step is to meet with your anaesthetist, who will put you at ease and ensure the procedure is comfortable. After that, All on X implants can be placed in just a few short hours. And, you won’t have to wait long for your replacement teeth. Shortly after the procedure, we will fit your replacement teeth securely to your implants. When we fit your teeth, we’ll review how the teeth fit together, examine the position and check your bite, ensuring you’re perfectly happy with how they feel.
3.
Recovery & Aftercare
You’ll need to look after your All on X implants and replacement teeth after the procedure. We advise you to take it easy to start with and to ensure you eat a soft, healthy diet and drink plenty of water. Within a few days, however, you should be feeling good as new.
4.
Osseointegration & Final Restoration
It’s worth noting, however, that it still takes up to six months for the jaw bone to grow around the implants, locking them firmly in place. That said, we’ll give you all the advice and guidance you need to give your new smile the care it needs.
Benefits Of All-On-X Dental Implants
Compared to conventional full-arch implant treatment, All on X has a number of clinical features that may make it suitable for a broader range of patients.
Simplicity
All on X avoids areas of the mouth that have reduced bone density. This prevents the need for additional procedures and makes the procedure much less invasive while speeding up the healing and rehabilitation process
Faster
The dental implants are strategically placed to deliver high torque values and this enables replacement teeth to be fitted immediately (on the same day) Instead of patients having to wait months for the implants to fuse with the jawbone.
More Accessible
Conventional implants can
require additional work to
build bone density. However,
All on Four doesn’t require
the same bone density due to
the positioning of the
implants, making it suitable
for more patients and more
complex cases.
More Flexible
With fewer implants
supporting the replacement
teeth, there is more flexibility
to design and fit the
optimum replacement teeth
that look and feel just the
way they should.
